REDCAST HANDBOOK

Attachments, Notes and reply files

Give a chat source material and open the files an agent produces.

Read Markdown ↗

Use the composer's attach menu or paste supported files and images into a chat. The selected route determines which formats it can receive. Redcast checks this when you stage the attachment and explains refusals before sending.

Attach files

Images are scaled for the request. Text files such as Markdown, source code and CSV can be included as text. Direct PDF support depends on the model route; native agents can also read PDFs through their document-reading tool, including OCR for scanned pages.

The attachment chip shows what is waiting. Open it to inspect the list or remove an item. In an empty composer, Delete removes the last staged attachment. A copied web URL is not automatically downloaded as a file.

For a large file, use an agent working in its folder and ask it to read the relevant sections. Do not assume a pasted path gives plain chat filesystem access.

Attach a Note

Enable Notes, then choose Attach Note… in AI Chat's + menu. Typing @note followed by a space at the end of the draft also opens the picker. In Quick AI use ⌘K → Attach Note….

Search for a note and select it. Its current contents are staged as <title>.md for the next message. A note over 32 KB is refused rather than silently truncated. Remove its attachment if you change your mind.

The note is a snapshot. Editing the original after sending does not update a message the model already received.

Let an agent work with Notes

In the agent editor, enable the optional Notes tool family. It can search and read Notes, and append to them. Adding text to a user's note asks for permission even when the agent's general Changes policy allows file writes. Background runs cannot silently append through this tool.

A scheduled run's explicit “append result to a note” destination is a separate setting; see schedules.

Files mentioned in replies

Paths become links only when Redcast resolves them to files or folders that actually exist. It recognizes absolute and home-relative paths, Markdown links and files related to the agent's working folder or tool calls.

A click opens ordinary files in their default app and folders in Finder. Executables, scripts, installers and apps are revealed in Finder instead of launched by clicking a generated reply.

The context menu offers Open, Open With, Show in Finder, Quick Look and Copy Path. The tooltip shows the resolved path. A finished reply can also show a Files strip with image thumbnails or Finder icons; Space or the eye button opens Quick Look.

A file link is not proof that the answer is correct. Open the output and inspect it, especially before running code or sharing a generated document.
