# Dictionary

> Define words using the dictionaries already enabled on your Mac.

Run **Define Word**, or choose its fallback under a launcher query. The dictionary screen keeps your term in the search field so you can look up another word without reopening it.

## Choose your dictionaries

Redcast reads the dictionaries enabled in **Dictionary.app**. Enable and order the languages or dictionaries there. The first enabled dictionary with a match supplies the entry; Redcast does not download a separate word list or send a lookup to a search provider.

## Read and copy

**Return** copies the displayed definition and closes the palette. **⌘Return** opens the term in Dictionary.app, where you can inspect other enabled dictionaries.

If the term has no match, check spelling and try it in Dictionary.app. A missing or disabled language dictionary cannot be supplied by Redcast itself.

## Command and fallback

The command is managed in **Settings → Commands**. Hiding it also removes its fallback. The fallback's own switch only controls the fallback row, leaving the command available by name when its command is enabled.

For online research or a word missing from the local dictionaries, use an explicitly configured quicklink or AI web search.
